September 11 Chile, the other 11S

The coup of 11 September 1973 or military uprising, also known as “the other 11S” occurred in Chile involves the violent overthrow of the Chilean government headed by Salvador Allende Gossens. It was planned by senior generals of the Armed Forces and Carabineros (uniformed police), after a period of high political polarization and economic and social upheaval in the South American country.

The coup of September 11 Chile was planned for a sector of the Chilean Navy. Later they added General of the High Command of the Armed Forces and Carabineros and Army led by General Augusto Pinochet, in addition to being influenced by various national and international power groups, which President Nixon and highlights CIA. On 15 September 1970, when Nixon ordered the CIA “prevent Allende assumed power, or demolished,” was considered the starting point for covert operations in the United States that contributed to the overthrow of the government of Salvador Allende, these new revelations change the map of the action. According to these transcripts, Nixon and Kissinger began his plans to reverse the results of the elections in Chile three days earlier. At noon on 12 September 1970, Kissinger called Helms to fix an urgent meeting of the “Committee 40,” a senior group that oversaw covert operations of the US government.

On 11 September 1973, there was another coup with which the military took power in the state. Allende died; probably committed suicide when the military bombed the Presidential Palace. However, Augusto Pinochet, who headed the coup, did not restore the presidential system or returned power to the civilian legislature, but he used the power he had as commander of the army to proclaim himself towards a board.

This coup suggested certain theories about the position of the CIA. Since 1975, some reports indicate that the CIA had attempted to prevent Allende took power after his election in 1970; and in 2000 published documents that stated that Pinochet was one of the favorite candidates to take power. However, they deny having participated actively in the events after the inauguration of Allende.
